About Me

Deborah Jean Nielsen

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Art Therapist Registered-Board Certified, EMDR Certified Therapist, EMDRIA Approved Consultant, and Author

I am grateful to be able to do the work with my clients empowering them to become more free to live a meaningful life. From my perspective, psychotherapy is an alchemy of science and art. My own experience, having been a client in the process of doing EMDR Therapy is in my view, essential to be able to stand by the power of the work as both a Clinician and an EMDR Consultant.

My career spans beyond two decades, serving children and adults in healing trauma and dysfunctional family patterns. I offer Psychotherapy for children and adults. I am an EMDR Certified Therapist, EMDRIA Approved Consultant, and a Registered Art Therapist.

In My View

I see through a multidimensional perspective. I do not look at my clients as primarily their diagnosis or their experience, altho these are components. I have created a multi-dimensional self-assessment that includes physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. (spiritual can be our sense of meaning, mystery, and or purpose). With a multi-dimensional perspective, honoring all elements of diversity are key.

Part of wholeness is embracing our cultural, racial, sexual, spiritual, evolving, conscious, unconscious, personal and public self. As a species, we are all going through growing pains; either because we are digging in our heels and resisting self-awareness or because we are diving into our deeper self to unravel what keeps us stuck, allowing more space to embrace a greater level of wholeness and purpose.

As individuals, while we are living in a challenging time; there is room for tremendous change. In the big picture, it is time for humanity to embrace the role of being stewards of the earth, and to raise our bar, in our own way towards generating greater compassion and accountability; starting from the inside out. As we do our own healing, we are in a better position to contribute to a positive shift.

Over the past few years, I have developed my own therapeutic framework which is centered in Compassionate Mindfulness Integration. I have been incorporating this with EMDR Therapy. My work is focused on unraveling what is stuck and building resilience. My overriding goal is to assist my clients in being more free to be their true, authentic self and live their purpose.

During a difficult point in our lives, having a good match to work with in psychotherapy can be pivotal in both building resilience and becoming more free to live a meaningful life. Each of us has a unique set of strengths and challenges. Evidence based, integrative psychotherapy can allow for enhanced self awareness, mindfulness, and healthy relationships. To me, the work of psychotherapy is a science and an art. I continue to learn, and develop my own unique craft of psychotherapy.
